PES congratulates Mircea Geoana on solid result
Mircea Geoana, the leader of the Romanian social democratic party PSD, has delivered a high score in Romania’s first round of presidential elections, after significantly narrowing his margin to a bare 1.25% in relation to the incumbent.
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists, sent his congratulations to Mircea Geoana, and commented: "This is a great result for Mircea Geoana and the PSD. The Party of European Socialists is delighted about the high electoral support he enjoys for the office of President of Romania."
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen added: "I have great confidence that Mircea Geoana can win the run-off in the presidential elections on the 6th December and wish him every success. Europe is looking forward to welcoming him as Romania’s president."
