PES congratulates Thorbjørn Jagland on his election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe
PES President, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, congratulates former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, on his election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
On a letter addressed to Jagland, PES President writes "The Council of Europe has worked towards developing and defending human rights, democratic development and cultural co-operation for the last sixty years, and I am very pleased that the new Secretary General is a progressive politician who will further these values."
"As a vocal advocate of European integration, I know you will be an effective leader of the oldest international organisation working towards this end."
