PES hails appointment of Catherine Ashton as breakthrough for Europe
Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists, hailed the agreement of the European Council on the new EU High Representative and the Council as “a significant agreement for the political balance of the European Union”.
PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, commented: “The appointment of Catherine Ashton is a great moment for the PES as well as for the women of Europe. Catherine Ashton is an extremely qualified and trusted politician who will build collective European influence on the world stage.”
“The PES is happy to have succeeded in concluding this agreement with the EPP to ensure political balance and gender equality in the top European jobs.
