The signing of the Lisbon Treaty by the Czech President Vaclav Klaus completes the drawn out ratification process of the Lisbon Treaty.

PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said: "I am delighted that the Lisbon Treaty has cleared its final hurdle. This treaty makes Europe more democratic, more effective and gives us a stronger basis to overcome common challenges together. Europe now needs to focus on fighting the financial and economic crisis and stopping mass unemployment." 

Jiri Paroubek, Leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD), commented: "The Czech Social Democratic Party put considerable political capital into the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. That is why we appreciate the decisive ratification of the EU Lisbon Treaty. The signature of the Treaty by Czech President Mr. Vaclav Klaus within few hours after the decision of the Constitutional Court, justifies our prudent attitude to Mr. Vaclav Klaus."
