PES Activists Dublin September Seminar
Date: lundi 15 septembre 2008 à 20h00
Organisateur: Desmond O'Toole
Lieu: Molesworth Street European Commission, 0000 Dublin, Irlande
September Seminar with French Senator Richard Yung (Parti Socialiste)
"Political rights to social rights: how important is the EU to the development of a social rights-based citizenship?"
The seminar will cover such issues as the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the role of the European Court of Justice in questions relating to social rights and worker protection (e.g. the Lavall case). Europe's acquiescence in the US demand for passenger travel data and the wider issues of data protection and a surveillance society in the EU. Whether the EU represents a threat to social rights and protections, as claimed by the opponents of the Lisbon Treaty, or is the means by which those rights may be further enhanced and vindicated leading to the the development of a truly "Social Europe".
