

No to intolerance in Poznan, Poland and Europe
PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen condemned the assault on two PES activists following a demonstration in Poznan, Poland. Two PES activists were followed and assaulted as they left the demonstration because they were carrying a placard that said ‘Diversity YES Intolerance NO’.


Txeroki arrest - blow to Europe's last terrorist group
Congratulating the French and Spanish authorities for the arrest of the suspected military chief of Europe’s last terrorist group ETA, PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said "The arrest of the suspected military chief of ETA is good news for the people of Spain and for the whole of Europe. I hope it is a severe blow to Europe’s last terrorist group."


G20 must act now despite lame duck President says PES
Commenting from New York on the forthcoming G20 summit in Washington, PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen said "Despite the meeting being hosted by a lame duck President, there are some important decisions that can and must be taken. It is important to take up Gordon Brown's proposal to coordinate the different economic stimulus packages being put into place across the globe. Also, there needs to be a common direction for national and EU regulation of the financial market. The world can't wait for global regulation, we need regulation in the EU, in the US, in Japan and elsewhere that moves in the same broad direction of ensuring that all players in the financial market are more transparent."


EU must respond positively to Steinmeier's proposal for Employment Pact
PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen warmly welcomed the proposal by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier for a European Pact on Employment to fight the recession.
Count down for PES Council has started!
The PES is holding its Council on 1-2 December in Madrid; this year the Council will focus on adopting the PES manifesto for the European elections. As on previous occasions PES activists are more than welcome to the Council; they will be able to attend plenary sessions, fringe meetings and a Training Day - on the eve of the Council.
